Les platanes qui le bordent, lui donnant toute sa majesté, sont victimes d’un chancre qui nécessitent aujourd’hui l’abattage et le remplacement programmé. Mais si demain il fallait accélérer ce processus, que deviendrait le canal sans sa verte rangée de sentinelles ?

In this book, I invite you to peruse a selection of my best shots, the fruit of over ten years of taking photos of the Canal du Midi, a World Heritage masterpiece.
With each season, the Canal du Midi offers marvellous colours and landscapes. The morning light, as the sun edges above the horizon, and the evening light, as the sun goes down, accentuate 350 engineering structures constructed in honour of Louis XIV: locks, bridges, bridge-canals, overspills and spillways. The canal flows for 240km from Toulouse to Sète via Castelnaudary and Carcassonne - and via Béziers, birthplace of Pierre-Paul Riquet, its brilliant inventor.
The charm of the canal worked its spell on me and I became fascinated by this masterpiece in the Languedoc of my birth. Over the years and throughout the seasons, I have strolled up and down its banks, camera in hand, seeking out the best angles and perfect lighting conditions.
